Welcome to West Salem, Illinois. Through this website we hope to help you truly understand our Village and what coming home to West Salem means to us. Springtime is an incredibly beautiful time of year here. Although most around here accept it as normal, we are truly blessed in our community with beautiful trees and flowering shrubs. There are many in our community who work hard to make our home a special place to live. We have much to be proud of here in West Salem. Did you know we actually have seven parks in West Salem? We have the Village Square which has been the center of activity for longer than any of us can remember. Many have fond memories of the Free Shows on Saturday evenings in the summer. There is Centennial Park, the ball park, which was established during the Village’s Centennial Celebration in 1957. The Mill Pond Park is better known as the tennis court park. It recently underwent a makeover thanks to the citizens of West Salem working under the leadership of the West Salem Development Association. Finally, there are the four corners which was named Central Park in our early years. Each corner at the intersection of Church Street and Albion Street is a park. Originally given to the Village by the Moravian Church, many are unaware that these areas are parks.
This spring, make time to visit these parks, go fishing in one of our two Village lakes, stroll through town with an appreciative eye toward what we do have to offer. Yes there is room for improvement, there always will be. If each of us does our part in whatever way we can, that improvement will come. “Be the change you want to see in the world.” (Mahatma Gandhi)
